Eppela – Pros & Cons
About Eppela
What it is
Eppela is an Italian donation and reward crowdfunding platform, launched in 2011 and run by Anteprima S.r.l., a company in Lucca founded in 2001. People give money to cultural, civic, solidarity and creative projects, or pre-pay for a reward such as a ticket, a book or merchandise. Backers get no money back: no interest, no share and no repayment. The site is in Italian.
How it works
A campaign runs for 15 to 120 days. You back it by card, Google Pay or Apple Pay, from €5, and may back the same campaign more than once. Payments go through Stripe. Every 30 days the money collected in the previous month is paid out to the campaign owner. Eppela also runs Mentor programmes, where companies, foundations and public bodies select campaigns and add their own money to them.
Who can raise money
Almost anyone: private people, associations and businesses can raise money for themselves, a cause, a creative project or a business. Eppela expects a clear project and a realistic target, but does not check whether the owner can deliver the rewards. Mentor campaigns are chosen through calls with their own criteria.
Fees
Backing costs you nothing extra. The campaign owner pays: Eppela keeps 7% of all money raised online, and Stripe charges 2.90% plus €0.25 for each donation (Eppela's help pages, October 2026). Owners can also buy paid promotion plans.
What reaches the project
About 90% of what you give. On a €50 donation, Eppela keeps €3.50 and Stripe about €1.70, so roughly €44.80 reaches the project. Most campaigns are keep-what-you-raise: the owner keeps every donation even if the target is missed. Mentor campaigns are all-or-nothing: if the target is missed, every backer is refunded.
Track record
Eppela says €2.2 million was raised in 2025 through more than 12,000 donations, about the same as in 2024 (€2.1 million). It publishes no lifetime total and no success rate for ordinary campaigns. The 99% success rate on its homepage covers only Mentor campaigns. Many open campaigns in October 2026 were far below their target.
Status and regulation
Operating (checked 30 October 2026). Donation and reward crowdfunding is outside the EU crowdfunding rules, so Eppela has no investment licence and is not supervised by Italy's market regulator, Consob. Delivering a reward is the campaign owner's sole responsibility under Eppela's terms (revised 20 March 2026); Eppela does not guarantee it.
Our view
We do not rate Eppela: backers give money away or pre-pay for a reward, so it is giving, not investing. Two facts matter for a backer: about a tenth of each euro goes on fees, and on ordinary campaigns you cannot get your money back after 15 days, even if the target is missed or the reward never arrives.
Regulation
License / Regulation: No investment licence — donation and reward crowdfunding is outside the EU crowdfunding rules and Consob supervision. Operated by Anteprima S.r.l., Lucca, Italy. Payments are handled by Stripe, a licensed payment institution.

Useful Information
No. On ordinary campaigns the owner keeps every donation even if the target is missed. Eppela does not guarantee rewards: delivery is the owner's sole responsibility. Your money comes back only if you ask for a refund within 15 days of donating, if a Mentor campaign misses its target, or if the owner never sets up payouts within 90 days.
Nothing extra for you. The campaign owner pays Eppela 7% of the money raised online, plus Stripe's 2.90% and €0.25 for each donation.
About 90%. On a €50 donation roughly €44.80 reaches the project after Eppela's 7% and Stripe's fee.
Mostly keep-what-you-raise: ordinary campaigns keep every donation whether or not the target is met. Mentor campaigns, backed by companies or foundations, are all-or-nothing and refund every backer if the target is missed.

No. You get no interest, no share and no repayment. At most you receive the reward you chose, if the owner delivers it. Whether a donation lowers your taxes depends on the legal form of the person or group you give to, so ask the campaign owner.
You can ask within 15 days of donating by writing to Eppela's customer support. After that, ordinary campaigns do not refund, and the reward is usually due long after the 15 days have passed.
A campaign selected by a company, foundation or public body that adds its own money and visibility. These campaigns are all-or-nothing, and Eppela says 99% of them succeed; that figure does not cover ordinary campaigns.
