NLInvesteert – Pros & Cons
About NLInvesteert
What it is
NLInvesteert is a Dutch platform, running since 2015, through which private investors lend to small and medium-sized Dutch businesses, often alongside banks and funds. It is licensed by the Dutch regulator AFM under the EU crowdfunding rules since 7 November 2022.
At 30 September 2026 the loans it had arranged since 2015 added up to €955 million across 889 projects, and €121.2 million of interest had been paid to investors. The €1.82 billion shown as total financing arranged includes bank and institutional money that private investors do not lend.
How it works
You choose business loans one by one, from €1,000 per loan. Each loan has a fixed interest rate and runs for a set term; loans on offer in August 2026 paid 8.10% to 10.50% a year and ran for 10 to 60 months. The platform scores every borrower on its own five-step scale and sets the rate from that score, the security and the term. Your money is paid into a bank account held by a separate foundation, Stichting Beheer NLInvesteert, which pays out to borrowers and collects repayments. The site and documents are in Dutch only.
Returns
The platform publishes what its whole loan book has earned, with the steps shown. At 30 September 2026 borrowers paid 10.88% a year in interest on the amounts outstanding. After taking off 2.21 points for loans written off and 0.99 points of costs, investors kept 7.68% a year. That net figure was 7.76% at the end of 2025 and 7.53% at 30 June 2026, so it has held steady while losses rose. It does not include the optional alert-service fee or tax.
Losses and defaults
Losses are moderate for business lending, but rising. Since 2015, €24.6 million of the €955 million lent has been written off, 2.58%, counting repayments more than 90 days late as written off (30 September 2026). Three months earlier the figure was 2.0%, so about €6 million was added in one quarter.
The platform also publishes a yearly default rate under the EU crowdfunding rules: in 2025, 12 of the 236 loans running at the start of the year defaulted, 5.08% (a loan is in default when it is more than 90 days late or expected to fail). It was 6.20% in 2024 and 6.74% in 2023. At 30 September 2026, €11.6 million (3.96%) of the €294.2 million still to be repaid was more than 90 days late, of which €6.05 million more than 180 days. These late amounts are shown after deducting what the platform expects to recover from the security, so the gross amounts are higher.
What secures your money
Most loans are secured. Typical security is a mortgage on business property, a pledge on stock, receivables or equipment, and personal guarantees from the owners or directors. A separate foundation, Stichting Zekerheden NLInvesteert, holds the security for all investors and enforces it if a borrower fails, including in a bankruptcy. Where a bank lends in the same deal, the bank is repaid from the security first and investors come after it.
There is no buyback, reserve fund or insurance. No independent valuation figures and no recovery rate are published; late amounts are shown net of the expected recovery. In plain words: when a business fails, you depend on the sale of its security, often after the bank, and that can take years and return less than you lent.
Who runs it and its licence
NLInvesteert B.V. (chamber of commerce number 61387932), based in Barneveld, runs the platform. It holds a crowdfunding service provider licence from the Dutch regulator AFM (number 32000008, since 7 November 2022), which also covers credit scoring and setting interest rates. Investments are not covered by the Dutch deposit guarantee scheme. The group also runs investment funds, from €100,000, that lend into the same loans as private investors.
Fees
Opening an account is free. Investors pay an administration fee of 0.10% a month, 1.2% a year including VAT, on the amount still invested, taken from incoming repayments. An optional service that alerts you to new loans costs 0.24% a year. There are no entry or exit fees. Borrowers pay their own fees to the platform.
Getting your money out
Your money comes back only as each loan is repaid. There is no market to sell loans, and the terms do not allow you to transfer an investment without the platform's written consent. Loans run up to five years, and when a borrower gets into trouble, recovery can take several years.
Our view
Return: High — borrowers paid 10.88% a year on the whole loan book at 30 September 2026, and investors kept 7.68% after write-offs and costs. Risk: Medium (higher means more risk) — 2.58% of all money lent has been written off and about one loan in twenty defaults each year; the clear monthly reporting balances rising write-offs and the bank's first claim on security in shared deals. Risk-return: Medium — a net 7.68% a year, measured after losses across the whole book, is fair pay for that risk, with no way out before repayment.

If a borrower fails, the security foundation enforces the security for all investors; this can take years and may not return everything, especially where a bank ranks first. Investors' money and the security are held by separate foundations, not by NLInvesteert B.V. itself, which is meant to keep them apart from the platform's own creditors.
